3 Great Putting Games That Improve Your Skills
I’m not going to lie to you, practicing putting can be monotonous and boring. Having games that you can play on the putting green can definitely help you continue to improve and feel motivated to practice. I found some of these games from the Dave Pelze Putting Bible, and Trent Wearner’s Golf Scrimamges book. If you want to read more about them, I’ve linked them below.

Game #1: 3’-6’-9’-12’
There’s no question that if we made more 3-12’ putts all of our scores would be lower. This game is great because you get to track your progress and push yourself to new heights in the scoring range.
Setup
Place pennies at 3’, 6’, 9’, and 12’ away from a hole
Grab your putter and three golf balls from your bag
Rules & Scoring
If you ever miss a putt, you have to start over from the 3’ putt
To advance to the next distance, you must make three putts in-a-row
For example: make three in-a-row from 3’, move to 6’, make three in a row from 6’, move to 9’ and so on
You get 1 point for each putt you make. See how many points you can get
Game #2: 3X6 Compass
3’ putts are must make putts if you want to lower your scores. You may have some par save and birdie putts from 6’ which is why it’s so important to practice them.
Setup
Place four pennies around the hole 3’ away (see picture above)
Place another four pennies 6’ away from the hole (see picture above)
Start at a 3’ putt and hit putts in a circular fashion alternating between 3’ and 6’ putts
Scoring
Make = 1 point
Miss = 2 points
Perfect score = 8

Game #3: Leap Frog
Speed Control is king when it comes to eliminating the dreaded 3 putt. Leap Forge is a great way to practice your speed control and I would recommend doing it prior to each round of golf you play.
Setup
You’ll need five golf balls
Place a tee 15’ (5 steps) away from the edge of the fringe
Place another tee 20’ beyond your 15’ tee OR 35’ away from the edge of the fringe
Scoring
The first ball must come to rest between the tee and the fringe
Your goal is to get each golf ball there after to come to rest beyond the previous golf ball
If you ever come up short of the previous golf ball, or hit a ball into the fringe, you have to start over
Feel free to play this game from different distances
