How I Track Stats to Measure Improvement and Maintain My Game

Admit it… You’ve been that person that has walked in to the Pro Shop looking for the newest, baddest, longest driver to buy in hopes that it would perform better than the one you currently have in your golf bag. I get it, hitting the ball sounds amazing, and, if the driver costs $600 it better perform better. All things equal, I have no doubt it will hit the ball further. Club technology is constantly changing and companies are coming out with better clubs every year. But, are these clubs actually going to get you to shoot lower scores? Let me tell you something that will help… Knowing your game. This means you know how far you hit each club, what areas of your game you’re strong in, and what areas you’re weak in. This leads me to tracking your stats and how easy it is to do in modern day golf.

I have to admit, I didn't track my stats for a long time at the beginning of my golf career. I didn't have real data that would point me to the specific areas I needed to work on for improvement.

I used to envy PGA Tour players for having every shot meticulously tracked in the events they played. What an incredible resource to create effective practice plans and shoot lower scores.

Arccos Golf

Since discovering Arccos, it has become an invaluable tool for day-to-day players like myself. I personally use Arccos, and I wouldn't endorse anything that I don't believe in. Yes, I am an affiliate with Arccos, and I may earn a small commission if you decide to click the links in this article that take you to their website.

Strokes Gained Data

One of the greatest benefits of using Arccos is the Strokes Gained data it provides. With Arccos, I've been able to pinpoint key areas of my game that require serious improvement. Currently, the app reveals that I struggle as a putter from 2-10 feet. Here are some screenshots showing the data provided by the app. If you're unfamiliar with Strokes Gained, I recommend checking out My Golf Spy's article on it. It's fascinating to compare my current game to where I aspire to be. As of now, I'm a +1.5 handicap, aiming to reach +4. The stats below are compared to a +4 handicap.

Having these insights about my overall game and specific rounds is immensely helpful when organizing my practice sessions.

Club Distances

Another impressive aspect of Arccos is how accurately it tracks club distances, providing precise yardages for each club. While I support the use of technology like Trackman or FlightScope to determine yardages, the advantage of Arccos lies in its measurement of distances during actual gameplay.

The app also allows you to "Simulate" distances. So, if you usually play at high altitude but are taking a trip to sea level, you can use the app to simulate the distances based on elevation, temperature, and wind speeds, helping you prepare before you arrive.

Why I Love Arccos As a Coaching Tool

Now, here's why I love Arccos as a coaching tool. I've had clients who purchased Arccos, and as their coach, I can follow their progress and see when they play a round of golf. I can access their key insights, stats, and real trends in their game. As a coach, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking a player is only struggling with one area of their game. Arccos helps me stay on track with my coaching clients, enabling us to continually adjust their improvement plan for tangible results.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, if you're looking for a tool that helps you focus on areas of your game that require improvement and leads to better scores, I wholeheartedly recommend Arccos. It's an incredible product, and I believe every golfer in the world who isn't playing on the PGA Tour should use it. At the very least, it's a lot of fun to dive into and analyze your game using the provided analytics.
